West St. Tammany Programs

GROUP EXERCISE: The West St. Tammany YMCA offers land, aqua, and indoor cycling (Spinning) classes for various levels and abilities. Our current class schedule includes: Zumba, Power Yoga, Pilates, Step, Kickboxing, Group Strength, Line Dancing, Silver Sneakers, Tai Chi, Yoga and Indoor Cycling. Indoor Cycling is a motivating, invigorating ride simulating hills and flats that integrates music, camaraderie, for a great calorie-burning workout. Group Exercise classes are open for ages 12 and up. All of our classes are led by certified instructors who focus on designing fun and challenging classes.

WELLNESS CENTER: Our wellness program offers a variety of cardio and strength exercise equipment including a 9-piece strength circuit. Our trained wellness staff is available to provide fitness orientations, and to educate members about equipment use and general exercise information. Through the Personal Fitness Program, our wellness coaches help members develop and maintain a 12- week exercise program This 12 week program is especially designed for the new exerciser and for those who have not been successful in maintaining a workout routine. Our trained coaches will provide the personal attention you need to be successful in your journey toward better health. This program has been proven to be a perfect introduction for the beginning, as well as to the experienced exerciser.

PERSONAL TRAINING: A YMCA certified personal trainer will design a customized one-on-one exercise regime for you based on your fitness goals and the results of your fitness assessment. Health and medical issues will be taken into consideration in the design of your workout plan. Your trainer will motivate and challenge you at every session. To ensure your success, your trainer will track your progress and make adjustments in your workout plan as necessary.

Youth Fitness: Classes are age-appropriate, fun activities led by trained staff. Classes develop kid’s agility, balance, coordination, strength and confidence. Current classes include Zumba Kids, AerobicsFit and YogaKids. Children dance to international music in Zumba, run relays in AerobicsFit and roar like lions in YogaKids. Boy and girls ages 5 – 12 are welcomed.

CANCERFIT: A therapeutic exercise and wellness program for cancer patients who are either in cancer treatment or in cancer recovery. This nationally recognized program incorporates activity and movement with weekly wellness and relaxation sessions over an eight-week period. Each participant is placed on a personalized fitness program designed to address individual needs and capabilities. A cancerfit trained staff person conducts program in a supportive and safe manner.

TRIM KIDS: Trim Kids is a proven multidisciplinary 12-week plan that gives parents and children an approach to lifetime weight management. Each week, parents and children together practice ways to increase daily activity and set achievable eating and exercise goals. Children learn exercises/activities designed for their weight levels, and healthy tasty recipes are provided for the entire family.

Silver Sneakers: Fun fitness classes designed with the older adult in mind. Class objectives include building endurance, strength, balance and flexibility. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing and a small ball are used to enhance class experience. A chair is offered for support,

HomeSchoolers PE: Physical Education class for children who are home schooled. A variety of fun, age-appropriate activities such as rockclimbing wall, flag football, kickboxing, bootcamp are planned. Parents have the opportunity to use wellness center while children are in p.e. with trained YMCA staff.

AQUA FIT: RefreshingFun! Water aerobics class combining cardio, strength and flexibility while easy on the joints. Balls, tubes may be used to enhance class experience. Great workout!
