We are pleased to announce that Austin Badon is joining our YMCA team as the Executive Director of our East Jefferson YMCA beginning on Monday, August 29th.
Austin brings to the Y a deep commitment to our Greater New Orleans community and an extensive background in public service, youth development, education, and workforce development.
The YMCA of Greater New Orleans has taught over 1,000 kids how to swim this summer. With the help of a grant, the WST St. Tammany YMCA gave free swimming lessons to 60 children on the North Shore. The Advocate covers the Y swim program here!
There is a list of basic life skills all parents instinctively know they must teach their children to keep them safe and healthy such as looking both ways before you cross the street, washing your hands with soap and water and eating the right amount of fruits and vegetables every day.

This past weekend the YMCA of Greater New Orleans in partnership with the Girl Scouts Louisiana East certified 32 Girl Scouts in the ASHI Babysitting course. The scouts also received their babysitting badges. Not to mention they had a blast swimming, making s’mores by the camp fire, cooking, and playing all during their stay.
