SWIM LESSONS

The Y Swim Lesson Program is a nationally recognized program with a history of success. We are professional, safe, and incorporate character development (honesty, respect, caring, and responsibility) into every swim lesson.  While our immediate goal for each level is to teach various swimming skills, our long-term goal is to develop a sense of self-worth, an attitude of service to the community, and to inspire personal values in each child that participates in our program. H2GEAUX, A YMCA SAFETY AROUND WATER PROGRAM

H2Geaux is based on a successfully-tested, best-practice model that has operated for more than a decade, utilizing the YMCA of the USA’s nationally recognized Safety Around Water (SAW) curriculum. We teach children essential water-safety and survival skills that include: breathing techniques, buoyancy control, how to move across the pool, and how to jump into the pool and return safely to the side, in addition to safety topics outside of the pool—pool rules, calling 911, CPR, life jackets, and safety while boating in open water. Each session runs 6-weeks and each weekly lesson is 45 minutes of instruction and 45 minutes of structured and supervised play which reinforces skills learned during instruction time.

Diverse Abilities Swim Lessons

The YMCA of Greater New Orleans will be launching a pilot program focused on reaching children with diverse abilities during the summer of 2019. Our new program will provide specialized one-on-one or small group lessons for children with various special needs. Through this swimming program, parents and caregivers will be given the opportunity to provide their children with the means to learn fundamental water safety and swimming skills in a safe environment.  Offerings vary based on location. Scholarships are available based on financial need. Please see your branch for more details. Please contact Association Aquatics Director Taylor Oelking at tayloro@ymcaneworleans.org to discuss options and availability.
